Darwin Airport Resorts Facilitates Gurambai Cultural Trail Experience for Richmond Football Club and Club Sponsors

In the lead-up to the AFLW Dreamtime in Darwin match tonight between Richmond and Essendon, Airport Development Group (ADG) and Darwin Airport Resorts proudly hosted an On Country cultural experience along the Gurambai Cultural Trail for Richmond Football Club staff and its AFLW co-major sponsor, A.G. Coombs.

The Gurambai Trail, developed in partnership with Larrakia Nation, showcases the rich cultural heritage, storytelling, and natural beauty of Larrakia Country. The experience provided an opportunity for guests to deepen their understanding of Larrakia culture and connect meaningfully with the land and its stories.

The Gurambai Cultural Trail is a living connection to our history and traditions. Sharing these stories with visitors allows us to celebrate the uniqueness of Larrakia Country and create a greater respect and understanding for culture.

David Kurnoth, Cultural Liaison Officer with Larrakia Nation, said the experience highlighted the strength of cultural storytelling in bringing communities together.

“The Gurambai Cultural Trail is a living connection to our history and traditions. Sharing these stories with visitors allows us to celebrate the uniqueness of Larrakia Country and create a greater respect and understanding for culture. Our partnership with ADG and Darwin Airport Resorts has been vital in ensuring these experiences are shared widely and with authenticity.”

Luke Murray, Indigenous Cultural Capability Manager with the Richmond Football Club, said the Trail provided an invaluable opportunity for the Club’s leadership team.

The AFLW Dreamtime Round is a powerful moment of recognition and celebration, and this experience with Larrakia Nation has allowed the club to enhance our standing as a cultural safe club and a leader in community engagement. For Richmond, strengthening our understanding of Indigenous cultural, history and the diversity of Indigenous people has allowed the club to have a deeper understanding of connection to country and how essential it is to First Nations culture. We are extremely grateful to ADG, Darwin Airport Resorts, and Larrakia Nation for making this possible for the experience and education we have had.”
