Darwin International Airport Strengthens Aviation Partnerships at Routes Asia 2026 in Xi’an, China
Airport Development Group (ADG) owners of Darwin International Airport have reinforced Darwin’s position as a key aviation gateway between Australia and Asia following strong industry engagement at Routes Asia 2026 in Xi’an, a city in north-central China, which serves as the capital of Shaanxi Province.
The premier aviation forum brought together airlines, airports, and tourism organisations from across the Asia-Pacific region to discuss route development, market opportunities, and the evolving aviation landscape.
Throughout the event, ADG representatives met with dozens of airlines and route development professionals, advancing discussions aimed at strengthening international connectivity and supporting long-term aviation growth for Darwin and the Northern Territory.
Executive General Manager Airports Rob Porter said collaboration remains critical to successfully attracting and growing air services.
Our participation is made stronger through the close collaboration between Airport Development Group and the Northern Territory Government. Working together allows us to present a united aviation and tourism proposition that supports new routes, strengthens partnerships, and delivers long-term economic benefits for the Territory.
“Events such as Routes Asia are incredibly important for Darwin. They provide a unique opportunity to engage directly with airline decision-makers and showcase the Northern Territory’s strong growth potential and strategic location between Australia and Asia,” Mr Porter said.

ADG acknowledged the continued partnership with the Northern Territory Government and Tourism Australia, whose collaboration supports efforts to grow aviation access, tourism visitation, and trade opportunities.
The engagement also provided valuable opportunities to reconnect with industry partners and build relationships that will help shape future aviation opportunities for Darwin and the Northern Territory more broadly.
