ADG Indigenous Training Academy Cohort Strengthens Indigenous Workforce Capability
Airport Development Group (ADG) is proud to recognise seven graduates and trainees of the ADG Indigenous Training Academy (ITA) who have completed the six-month Mentoring for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Workforce Mentors program.
Delivered by Saltbush Social Enterprise, the program has equipped ADG Indigenous team members with practical skills and knowledge to mentor Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees who are new to the workforce and support them to build confidence, resilience, and sustainable careers.
Training was delivered by Saltbush Social Enterprise’s John Leeder, with all ITA participants completing Leadership and Mentoring training as part of ADG’s ongoing commitment to developing the capability of its Indigenous workforce.
The nationally recognised qualification reflects the important role Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce mentors play in supporting new workers to navigate the workplace, overcome barriers to employment and develop the skills needed to maintain meaningful and gainful employment.
The program focuses on three key areas:
- Normalising the work experience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander new workers
- Helping employees navigate barriers to work retention while building resilience and maintaining attendance and;
- Acting as a cultural bridge between employees and employers.
ADG Indigenous Training Academy Manager Samantha Watkins said the program was an important investment in people and leadership.
“These graduates and trainees have demonstrated a real commitment to supporting their colleagues and strengthening the pathways available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people entering and progressing through the workforce.
“Building the capability of our own people to mentor, support and lead others is an important part of creating an inclusive workplace where people can develop their skills and build long-term careers.
“We are incredibly proud of what the ITA cohort have achieved and look forward to seeing them put their new skills into practice across ADG.”

These graduates and trainees have demonstrated a real commitment to supporting their colleagues and strengthening the pathways available to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people entering and progressing through the workforce.
The graduates and trainees join a growing network of Indigenous employees participating in ADG’s Indigenous Training Academy, which provides training, development, and career pathways across ADG’s airports and businesses.
ADG is committed to supporting the development of a skilled and confident Indigenous workforce and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to build rewarding careers in the aviation and broader airport environment.
Sandra de Kock, ADG Executive General Manager of People, Culture and Community said ADG’s investment in training was also an investment in the future of the Northern Territory.
“Airport Development Group is proud to support the next generation of Territorians.
“Our airports connect people and communities across the Territory, and we want our workforce to reflect the communities we serve. Developing Indigenous leaders and mentors is an important part of that commitment.”
